Description:
Grey and cream tiger with white chin, throat and tiny mittens on all four feet Incredible green eyes, emerald in the right light Domestic Short Hair — with downy undercoat Spayed Up to date on shots (1/3/06) FELV/FIV negative (12/21/04) Approximately 4 years old Found July 2004 in Tacony, Philadelphia Abigail wandered into my neighbors’ yard one July evening in as they sat on their back porch. When she was called, she came running up and jumped up in a lap and made herself at home, purring away. She continued to live on the back porch, wandering away every once and a while, but returning for free food and a soft chair to sleep on. The neighbors would have kept her, but their cat doesn't tolerate any other cats — even reacting when she saw Abigail through the window. I agreed to take Abigail in after my house guests left. So, December 2004, she came to live in my back room, isolated from my other cats. I tried to introduce her to my group, but my little female and Abigail really did not get along. So, I isolated her again. I thought they might need a little more time to get used to the idea of another cat coming to stay. I tried again, and failed again. In a group setting, Abigail can be very defensive, which then looks like aggression. Her MO is to find a place to secure herself— behind a door, under a piece of furniture, etc. Then, as other cats enter the space, they are forced to walk past her, and she charges and swats at them. This is really bad when feeding time rolls around. My little female just won't stand for it, and strikes back. That brings some of the bigger cats to her defense, and one by one, they’ve all had swatting/rolling fights. I’ve never witnessed any biting, but most of my guys have scratches on their noses from Abigail. My gang has also realized that they can each stake out an area, and keep her from entering it. There are more of them than there are places to put litter-boxes, so they’ve got that commodity locked up. So, I feel Abigail would be suited to being an only cat. And a lovely, wonderful friend she'll be. She is very social and loving. She would prefer to sit on your lap while watching television, and likes to sleep on the bed at night. During the day, she contents herself by looking out the window and sleeping in a cat bed on top of the piano. She never liked toys before, but has begun to take an interest in the track-ball toy. Also, the feather cat-teaser is beginning to look like fun to her. As far as I can tell, she prefers a carpet piece to scratch on. She never touched the carpet scratching post I gave her, and I can’t remember if she liked the cardboard one. Please fill an application out at www.nar.petfinder.com and give this kitty a forever home.
