PORTER UPDATE 8-29-09 We just wanted to let everyone know that Porter has lost her fight. This spunky little girl's body just couldn't fight any longer. With your prayers, support, and donations we were able to help her fight as long as she wanted to, but it was just too great of a fight for her frail, wounded body. She let us know that it was time for her to go over the rainbow bridge to where her wounds would be healed, she would no longer be in pain and she could run and play among her friends who have crossed the bridge before her. I was hoping to bring her home and spoil her like I do with my other fosters, feeding her amish chicken and whipped creme. I know there will come a day when I will cross the bridge and she will be there waiting for me and I will have the amish chicken and whipped creme in hand for her. As heartbreaking as it was to let her go, we know she is in a much better place. Even though Porter is no longer with us, we will never forget her and what she went through. She will always be in our hearts. We know another day will come and we will get another Porter and with your help and support we can give her a chance too. Thank you so much for helping Porter. — NAR volunteer Lori
PORTER 8-25-09 Porter was found in playground in South Philly. She lay there for two days during the August heat wave. People who passed her thought she was dead. One boy told his father about a dead cat in the playground. He went over there and as he bent down, she lifted her head. He picked her up immediately and took her to his house. She had a flea collar around her neck but was so tight, he took it off fearing it was hindering her swallowing. He tried to do what he could for her, but he could not afford a vet. He posted her online to see if anyone owned her. NAR saw the posting and offered vet care. A volunteer went to pick her up and discovered the horrible shape she was in. The back part of her left side was opened and her left eye was damaged. The cat was immediately taken to the emergency room to see if there was any thing that could be done. Maggots were in her wound, in the back of her left eye and her jaw was broken. She would have to be fed through a syringe. Apparently, she was hit by car and was able to drag herself to the playground but could not go any further. With so much against this poor cat, she stills has the fight to want to live.We have also learned she is anemic and will need a transfusion. She will also need to be feed through an IV. Once she is fully recovered, she will need surgery for her jaw and the open wound on her leg. Her medical expenses are very high and we need your help. If you could find it in your heart to help this spunky little girl who still want lives after all she has been though. Online donations can be sent via our Web site at www.nar.rescuegroups.org or you can mail a check or money order (made payable to ‘Northeast Animal Rescue’) to: PO Box 52395, Philadelphia, PA 19115. Any amount is appreciated to help with medical costs. ALLIE Update 12-1-07 I can not say Thank you enough or give enough hugs and kisses for those who have come way beyond to help our kitties in need. The latest update on Allie: She saw the Doctor this past Friday and past with flying colors. Since it took 2 weeks to get her seen, we have been doing Bandage changes everyday to minimize infection. The Vet's I work with are so amazed with her personality since she lays with minimal restraint and allows us to change and clean her leg.
The Vet on Friday(Ortho Dr) re x rayed her leg and the toes are healing and she was trying to walk. He said we should keep the leg and start changing the bandage every 5 days for know. She still has a long way to go and still needs to be fixed.
This cat must know we are trying to help her and appreciates every act of love we have given her. No more street and no more looking for food and a warm bed with tons of TLC.
I was so worried in how her leg looked, that I was sure she would have it removed.so did everyone else that saw it. I did not want her to be sedated for the bandage changes as we all know how cats can get at the vet. I wanted the least painful method of recovery so she can find her forever home.
Without anyone's help to pay our bill's I don't know how I would handle any of these cats that needed our help. I am always a sucker for the helpless and injured cats that need us the most. There are so many helpless and homeless cats in this area that still need us. I will use this donation money wisely to care and place these cats. I just wanted to let all of you know I could not of done this without all of you by my side.
This rescue has survived for 4 years and want this rescue to keep going. This is also because we have the best volunteers and support from our adopters and friends.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart and Allies too!

Northeast Animal Rescue
Hello all, I am writing to all of you to ask for help for a few of our furry friends. Some have already had surgery and one awaits for funds to have her surgery. We have taken on a big undertaking with a few cats, Herbie, Gus, J.D., Bobbie, and last but Allie. These cats have cost us around $2,800.00. We still owe Rockledge $2,200.00 and it keeps accruing with some of our cats that have been sick.
Herbie and Bobbie had femoral heads of their hind leg removed because they were hit by a car. Gus had his jaw wired because he was hit by an unknown object. J.D. was a rescue that came to us with a leg removed and then had medical issues because the incision broke down. fallon was a rescue kitten that had her eye removed.
Then there is Allie, our newest rescue. She came to us Friday night (11-23-07) and her paw was run over by a car. She has several bones broken. Her paw and leg has a de gloving injury. There are 2 ways to go on her. Putting her out everyday to change bandages with a 50/50 chance and potential permanent nerve damage and a lot of pain or just to have the infection and the leg removed. We and several vets feel that is the way to go.
We need to pay most if not all of our bill before they will do more surgery for us. Please if you can spare $5.00, $10.00 or even more it would mean so much to us and our furry friends who need us most.
I know this could not have come at a more inconvenient time with the Holidays around the corner.
Thank you to those who have sent us your so generous donations. You know who you are.
