Special Needs: FIV Positive
Description:

Our website is updated daily

Missy is spayed, UTD on vaccines and tested negative for FeLV. She has tested positive for FIV.

She will live a normal life and lives with negative cats. She is a wonderful cat and deserves a great home. She rubs along your legs, loves to be petted and handled.

She was found in the maternity ward at our local animal control along with her babies. She was flea ridden, skinny and only wanting a home of her own. We have weaned her babies early in hopes they will test negative. They will be tested when of age.

What should you know about FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, aka Feline AIDS)?

  • FIV is not contagious to humans. It is species-specific, which means FIV will only infect other cats.
  • FIV is not a death sentence. In fact, many FIV-positive cats can live long and happy lives, as long as they receive regular veterinary care and prompt attention when illness arises. Like any chronic disease, FIV will need to be managed throughout the cat's life, as it cannot be cured.
  • Can an FIV-positive cat live with FIV-negative cats? Yes. As long as the cats peacefully coexist, the risk of transmission is minimal to none. Your vet may recommend periodic testing of your FIV-negative cats, especially if one of your cats falls ill.
  • How is FIV transmitted? FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds, and is usually found in unneutered, free-roaming males.
