Update September 2013:

After being adopted in January 2011, Summer was returned to NAR in February 2013 as a casualty of her human family’s breakup.  Fortunately, her human family responsibly contacted NAR with the hopes of finding her a new home, instead of choosing any undesirable or unthinkable action.

After being evaluated by a veterinarian, Summer was updated on her vaccines, given a conditional clean bill of health, AND strict feeding instructions for a weight loss regimen.  We were disappointed to discover that Summer had gained too much weight, and she was not able to properly groom herself, or to even walk comfortably – so a very strict, very controlled weight loss and exercise program was developed to help Summer gradually return to good health.  (Too rapid of weight loss in cats can be fatal.)  So from February through now, Summer’s health and weight loss have been closely monitored, and the veterinarian has deemed her to finally be at an acceptable weight.  She still has some work to do to reach her ideal weight, and we at NAR are committed to helping her meet that goal.

Summer has also shown how happy she is with her new figure - She can now not only groom herself, she can run and play with the other cats in the house and is visibly much more comfortable.  We are grateful that restoring her health has also restored her happiness – and who doesn’t love a happy Summer?

If Summer's story has touched your heart like it's touched ours, maybe you could be her true forever family.  Her forever family would have to closely monitor her food intake and encourage her to exercise, in order to prevent the unhealthy weight gain she once experienced.  With a good diet and sensible exercise, you too could have Summer all year long!

July 2010:

They don't know how she got there, or where she came from, but Summer showed up at a house she thought could help her. She would sit outside at their door crying. And crying some more. Lonely, scared and hungry, this little girl was persistent hoping the people would help her. And sure enough rescue came for Summer and scooped her up into foster care. She has been the most polite and grateful houseguest! She's an adorable little girl who gets along with the other cats and is hoping her new family finds her soon.
